Hi Kila! Your honesty was great. I'm also an oldest daughter, but I think my perspective on it is a bit different. In fact, this post made me want to write my own! It can be a struggle, and I hope that you find your own way in life. <3
thank you! definitely, everyone has their own experiences as the oldest, and i'd love to read your perspective if you're willing to share it. i also hope you can be your authentic self <3
as the youngest daughter, it was so refreshing to read your perspective as the eldest. as a daughter of immigrants, i did relate to the part of not being able to pinpoint what success is supposed to be, sometimes it just feels like making your parents proud is it. i love the emphasis of taking care of yourself at the end. it’s the best thing any of us can really do. <3 beautifully written !!
i truly appreciate your kind words! there’s always that underlying pressure to make our parents proud, even when we’re unsure of what that truly looks like for ourselves. i’m really glad the part about taking care of yourself stood out to you because, at the end of the day, we deserve to prioritize our well-being just as much as anyone else :)
As the eldest daughter of three brothers, i relate!
but I'm also older than you and i reassure you ,it will get better, you will be able to live as "you" because in the end, we are very strong ,and we can't live as something other than our true selves for long❤️
thank you, that really means a lot <3 being the eldest comes with its struggles, but knowing that it gets better and worth it in the end gives me hope :)
Being a middle child, i may not fully understand how you guys feel.. but reading this gave me a new perspective on my older sister..as i get older, i realize how much she’s done and appreciate her more... Thank you sm for writing this...it also inspired me to write something. Looking forward to reading more from you! ✨
thank you so much for sharing, that means a lot!! love that it gave you a new perspective on your sister, and it makes me so happy that it inspired you to write. looking forward to having you here for more :)
I’m the eldest daughter, too; but there comes a point where you must ask yourself if you wanna live in regret in the future because you always lived for others and not for yourself. I’m 20; and this year I’m completely taking my power back.
of course, we were born to be ourselves, to become the best version of ourselves, and it's great that this year you're standing up for yourself and i will do the same
This is one of the most special stories I have ever read. I could picture everything so vividly, your wording is truly beautiful. As an eldest daughter myself, the pressure to be perfect was terrifying for me. Because you're the first one entering high-school, the first one enrolling in university, the first one finding a job. I feel the immense pressure to make my family proud and to set a good example for my sister. I'm so glad you have such an amazing sister, and I'm so glad your sister has such an amazing you. Grow together, heal together, experience the beauty of life together. This was truly such a relatable read, I just want to give you a pat on the back and the tightest, warmest embrace. You did a great job at being the eldest daughter
thank you, you're so sweet <3 your words in this comment really warmed my heart, thank you for appreciating my writing, it really made my day. it's so true that being the firstborn daughter gives me perfectionist tendencies, it's like a classic first daughter syndrome. us, eldest sisters, i know we have a big influence on our family and i hope our journey will always go smoothly, let's pat each other's back!! 😄
You put forward the feelings of being an older sister well. All the inner conflicts felt very relatable.
